Bad or 'NO' Water Pressure ?

Old pipes were simply too narrow to provide adequate flow for the modern usage demands; damaged blocked and corroded pipes all cause hidden leaks that reduce water pressure to your home - affecting washing machines, power showers, dish washers and central heating systems.

Have you got poor water pressure? If so, please complete the contact form.

Call us on 01352 761 864 - If you have poor water pressure, TJ can resolve the issue.

Leaking Pipes

If your pipes burst then your priority will be to minimise any damage from escaping water.

You can do this by taking the following actions:

bullet   Immediately turn off your stop tap (see below) and drain your water system (you can do this by turning all the cold taps on in the house and once you have turned off the boiler or immersion heater, turn on all the hot taps)
bullet   Collect as much water as you can in buckets, baths and containers, as you can use this to flush the toilet – do not use this water to drink or cook with
bullet   Make sure that your central heating boiler is turned off
bullet   Do not touch any wet electrical fittings – call in an electrician

If your water is metered, remember you may be able to claim for the cost of water lost through an external leak. Please note that this is normally a one-off claim with the water supplier , where the leak has been from your supply pipe.
You will not need to claim if the leak was before your meter, for example, on the public footpath before your external/boundary stop tap.

Locating Your External Stop Tap

The diagram below shows the typical location of an External stop tap used for turning off water in the event of a burst pipe outside your home.

They are usually found in the footpath or public highway, just outside your property. In some cases there will be only one stop tap serving a number of properties (shared supply). If this tap isn’t working TJ Hayes and Son have a variety of options for helping you to get it fixed, please call for assistance with an external leak.

Operating the external stop tap

The external stop tap should only be operated by an employee of the water company in your area.

The exceptions to this would be:

bullet   In the case of an emergency so as to prevent damage to property or injury to persons; or
bullet   If all consumers whose water supply is controlled by the stop tap have agreed to the supply being turned off
